What's in a Consult?

Planning a wedding for 2015? Are you ready to tackle booking your wedding cake? Wondering what is involved in a cake consultation? What should you bring along to the consult?

The consultation is a time to sit down with your prospective cake designer and discuss what you would like to have for your wedding cake. Most designers also offer a few taste samples as well during the consultation.  Depending on the designer, there may or may not be a charge for the consultation.

Bring along some cake photos that have caught your eye – but not too many! Too many choices can make it difficult to narrow down exactly what you want. A great designer will take those ideas those ideas and create a design just for you – not just an exact copy of another cake.

Your designer will need to know how many guests you plan to have and if cake will be dessert or for a late night snack table. If you have a specific colour in mind that you want incorporated into the cake, then providing a colour swatch for the designer is a good idea. Your idea of teal blue and the designer’s idea of teal blue could be two completely different things! An inexpensive way to provide a colour swatch is to visit your local paint store and match a paint swatch to the tiny fabric swatch you have. Then the decorator is able to keep that on file and create the best colour match for your day.
